FAQ
Is safeguarding vulnerable adults training a legal requirement in the UK?
Under the Care Act 2014, local authorities and care providers have a duty to protect adults with care and support needs from abuse and neglect. CQC also expects staff to complete safeguarding training under Regulation 13, making safeguarding vulnerable adults training an essential part of safe, compliant care practice.
What are the different types of abuse covered in adult safeguarding?
Adult safeguarding covers physical, psychological, sexual, financial and discriminatory abuse, as well as neglect, self-neglect, modern slavery, domestic abuse and organisational abuse. Recognising these different types helps care professionals identify safeguarding concerns early and respond appropriately.
What should I do if I have a safeguarding concern?
Follow your organisation's safeguarding procedures: report the concern to your safeguarding lead or manager and record what you have observed as soon as possible. If someone is in immediate danger, contact emergency services straightaway.
What is Section 42 of the Care Act 2014?
Section 42 of the Care Act 2014 places a duty on local authorities to make enquiries, or ensure others do so, when they believe an adult with care and support needs may be experiencing or at risk of abuse or neglect and is unable to protect themselves.
Who should take this Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults course?
This course is suitable for care workers, healthcare assistants, support workers, senior carers, nurses and other professionals across residential care, domiciliary care and supported living services who support vulnerable adults.
Does this course satisfy CQC inspection requirements?
This course is CPD accredited and covers the safeguarding principles inspectors expect staff to understand. CQC doesn't approve individual courses, but expects providers to evidence that staff have received appropriate training and demonstrate safeguarding competence.
What is self-neglect and why is it a safeguarding concern?
Self-neglect is when a person is unable or unwilling to care for their own basic needs, such as personal hygiene, nutrition or a safe living environment. It's recognised as a category of abuse under the Care Act 2014 and can require a safeguarding response.
Can I complete this course on my phone?
Yes. The course is fully responsive and can be completed on desktop, tablet or mobile — study at your own pace, whenever it suits you.
